I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I work with individual adults, couples and families. I graduated from Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa with a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology in 1995. I earned my Master's Degree in Community Counseling with a specialization in Marriage and Family Therapy from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, Illinois in 1998.
I started out in this field doing in-home work with the Department of Human Services and learned about the child welfare system. Next, I worked as a School-Based Therapist at Hoover High School and Meredith Middle School in Des Moines and then was promoted to supervising School-Based Therapists for Orchard Place Child Guidance Center. After several years of working with kids and their families, I decided I had gained enough life experience myself that I was ready to work with adults and couples and did this on an outpatient basis at Mercy Behavioral Health Services until it closed in 2014. I then went into a private group practice at Child Psychiatry Associates for five years before deciding to go into solo practice at my current location, L. Miller Counseling, LLC. I am passionate about joining people in working through challenges they are facing.
I am a light-hearted, compassionate person. I am one of seven children; I am number six. I have been through divorce and am remarried with a blended family. My kids are college aged and life outside of work is busy! I like to be outdoors enjoying the sunshine when I can. I also enjoy hanging out and joking around with family and friends.
